you cannot MAKE people post... i am so sick of groups, message boards, etc., that try to make people take part... i can't count the groups i have been asked to leave because i do not meet their "post quota", as it were... if no one is posting, apparently the group is unnecessary... i am in one dvd group where they are practically hunting people down if they do not post... yet, in another dvd group, they get tons of posts... in the one with no posts, someone posted a link to a more active group and they got banned for that...
some people just NEED to have their own thing and will try to tear the world apart if people refuse to take part...
so goddamn stupid...
i always want to ask why their group is so special? what makes them different from the hundreds of groups just like it? why should people go there instead of somewhere else???
they just want a group, a board, whatever... for it's own sake, whether it makes sense or not...

people would rather trap people for no reason just to make themselves feel popular or useful than to show people the way to a useful place... it is why they make you join to read posts... so they know someone was there... and i have even seen the ones that email you as soon as you join... if you leave, they email you asking why... or, when you join, they post a big "EVERYONE WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBR!!! tell us ALL about yourself!!"
then...
if you go into the message archives they made you join to look at?
you see dozens of "WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBER" posts and little else...
i think it warms their heart just to get an email in their box with THEIR group name on it...

i love the user-friendliness of the modern-day web, and i think EVERYONE should be on the web... but, i wish people did not have as much control to start their own sites, chat rooms, email groups, etc...

these people have nothing to offer... they want traffic and will do anything it takes to get it...
i work in reverse of that... (hell, ANY good site works in reverse of that!) i START with quality and whoever is not interested does not have to click on the link... being obsessed with hits is a one-way trip to absolute lack of quality or content...
if i had to guess, i would say i have been in over 500 clubs and groups the last 2 years, and i cannot fucking believe how many use these types of tactics...
and it all starts with making people join just to see if you have anything worth joining for... then, the tactics get worse and worse...
by god, we have quality, and you can see it without joining shit...
when someone makes me join just to fucking look, i usually assume they have nothing, otherwise, they would have it WIDE open just to impress people and make them WANT to join...
i often hear from these losers "i used to just have a site and now i have a group also!"

i remember seeing a guy one time, a long time ago...
he started some group for midis...
even said on the front page "the BEST midi group on yahoo!"... since i was in a few midi groups at the time, i noticed him posting a couple of them...
one was particularly funny...
this was back in the club days, where you could see when someone joined...
so, on a couple dead ones, he joined, and within a minute or two, posted a spam to his club...
but, then he joined an ACTIVE club... apparently he looked around for a good 10, 15 minutes, then the same post, including the part where he says his is the best... his club with one member and only a handful of midis...
and i looked at his club and he had taken a bunch from the active group...
so, it seems he came, looked around, said "oh, here is a club like mine" (obviously, he had not looked for clubs BEFORE he started his), and then apparently said to himself, "yeah, well, mine is better" or maybe "mine WILL be better as soon as i get some members!"...
like curtis started a yahoo group for dreamserv, even though dreamserv had had one for a very long time...
and this "dreamcast survivors group" thing...
???
wtf? he talked about what the group would be about and it is the same thing as dcbg, so far as i can tell...
so, why is a new one needed?
in fact, i have seen more than one group pop up trying to cover what we cover...
why not just join dcbg???

well, almost... she stil recommends joining groups on the subject of his just to see what makes them successful...
i do not think i will ever understand what makes this phenomenon happen...
people cover the exact same subject as someone else, yet, they try to make it sound like theirs is better or different or something...

if you have quality, they will come... if not, they won't...
again, it all comes down to forcing people... he wanted his site to be the only choice... he saw it as a competition for who made the best site, i guess... and he did not want to have to worry about quality... he just wanted to be the only choice...
being the only one is alot easier than trying to
be the best, i guess...
he did the same thing with selling browsers...
he and curtis had a talk and i guess curtis appointed him "official dcbg browser seller" or some shit...
but, that did not stop posts asking where to buy...
and some did not like danny's deal anyway...
so, at one point, nick posted if anyone had found any other place to buy dp yet, and danny deleted his post...
and that is unheard of... people are free to post what they want, petty much... moderating people almost never happens in the whole life of the group...
and when it was a matter of controversy, danny said something like "if i am selling dp, i don't need people telling where else to buy it!"...

i am so glad curtis is no longer in charge...
but, this is just sort of typical mentality with people that run groups and such, it seems...
which is why i refuse to give control to the group to anyone who WANTS control...
someone else in the thread suggests maybe he find a dead club with alot of members, contact the mod and ask to be a co-mod and start making alot of posts and such...
ummm, why not just join and do that as a member???

dcbg-dreameye, no english dreameye user groups and it was not only off-topic at dcbg, but, the files thing again... can't trade vids unless you are on ind. emails and few would want all the posts from dcbg and i do not blame them...
dcbg-files, pretty much the same thing...
dreamcast girls, she looked for MONTHS to find girls-only dc-only place... and i helped and consider myself pretty good at finding stuff... everywhere she went, guys are obnoxious to girls, and/or, she is not into games enough to be in alot of conversation that revolves around the latest game or console or whatever...
our pso group, there are MANY pso groups, but,
NONE allow screenshot posts, which is what we wanted most in a pso group...
even our adult stuff group... man, TRY to find a friendly adult group... so many of them REQUIRE posting... we were in one that required two pics of a certain size to be posted by every member per week... and the asshole mod would post people by name and say "we still have not seen your two pics for the week! i WILL kick you out!"
that is another one that we were in many adult groups for over a year before we started our own...
people need to get over themselves and they would see the logic of all this...
"why join someone else's group when i could just start my own and they could come to me!"
and it applies to groups, websites, message boards, every damn thing on the net...
everyone can make their own shit for free so the net is CLOGGED with all this junk...
